GREETINGS:

   All players must either be a firefighter, police officer or function within a uniformed service. All players must be or turn 21 years of age over the course of the season. Each team is permitted up to THREE “non-uniformed” personnel. Said players must   meet with the league official and be noted on the team roster. Eligibility to play will be made by the league official who’s decision is final.

• Rosters

          1.    All teams will be required to submit by the first game of the season a complete team roster. Please use the template provided and email to       this site a completed roster and any roster additions or deletions. Changes to your team roster will be accepted up to November 5. Hardship  cases will be dealt on an individual basis. Each player must participate in at least six games per season to be eligible for the playoffs. Any team entering the playoff rounds with in-eligible players will forfeit the game. The decision of the league official is final.

             2.  Every player who plays for or on a league team assumes:
                  (a) Responsibility and knowledge that there are physical risks involved within the sport of ice hockey that
                 

     (b) The nature of an ice hockey game may present dangers to each player that each and every player participating in the Hot Shots Ice Hockey                   League participates at their own risk.
                 

     (c) Newbridge Arena, National Rink Management and/or the Town of Hempstead cannot be held liable for any damage/injury that may occur       during the course of the game.
            

            3. Every player must wear proper equipment approved and certified by the H.E.C.C. The use of any other equipment will result in ejection    from the game. Helmets are mandatory. The league STRONGLY recommends full or half shields be worn for safety, however, any player  who chooses not to wear a shield does so at their own risk. Face shields and guards must be worn as designed. There can be no physical alteration made.

• Uniforms
  

  In order to keep an accurate account of each team’s roster, teams will be required to wear the same colored jersey. It is not required to wear the same jersey, but is required that the same color jersey and most importantly a different number for each player that coincides with the team’s roster. A jersey with no number is not acceptable. There cannot be multiple jerseys with the same number.

• Officials
  

      The officials are professional who have to pass tests and attend seminars to stay current on rule changes. There are many instances when I hear a complaint made to the ref by a player regarding a rule that had been changed several years ago that the player was unaware of. The officials are professionals who have no care of the outcome of each game.

A note of caution, that the officials will be following rule 601- ABUSE OF AN OFFICIAL for every team in every division. The decisions of the officials are final.

• Game Rules
  

The league will follow USA hockey rules unless otherwise stated. All “stick” related penalties will be at the discretion of the officials. There are no mandatory misconducts from high sticks or drawing blood seeing that there is no mandatory face shield rule in effect

Mercy Rule: The league follows an eight goal mercy rule. Wherein if a team has obtains an eight goal lead in the third period, the score will not be posted after 8 and the clock will go to a running time format. Once the clock starts a running time format it will not revert to stop clock.

Overtime: If the game score is tied at the end of regulation time a 5 minute run clock sudden death overtime period is played. If a player is called for a penalty and needs to sit in the penalty box, the clock will go to a stop clock for the duration of the penalty. Once the penalty is over the clock returns to a running clock.

In playoff games the overtime will be a 5 minute stop clock followed by a 3 man shootout followed by a sudden death shootout. The higher seed team will have the option who shoots first.

There are no timeouts in overtime play.
